The tongue of the unseen

Curated by: Wesam Hassan & Georgia Vavva

This action inspired by Fali-Hafez practice in Iran each Nowrouze.

G
rab a random card/a paper from a deck of poems by Cavafy, and see which message it has for you. This practice is called Stichomancy which means divination by randomly selecting passages or pages from random books. It is different from Bibliomancy because in the later the random selection is usually fro sacred books. We will use selected poems from Cavafy’s oeuvre in this practice. Cafavy’s poems and words have afterlife of its own that continues to resonate till our current time. The poet is popular in different cultrus (for example Greek and Egyptian) and his words depicts the entanglement of the philosophical, the historical, and the personal. Let’s hear what Cavafy would tell us!

Site: In the square or in the school depending on the weather
