Infrastructure
As "base camp" of this year's PSL 2019, we have chosen the former primary school of Makrinitsa, which was in use until 2009, until it was abandoned for a bigger school in Portaria. Recently, and as a result of local initiative and the support of generous families, the old school has been renovated, outfitted with the necessary equipment and made available for cultural and educational activities.
The two-floor building hosts a full-equipped seminar room that can seat 80 people, as well as several classrooms (with the last assignments of the students still hanging on the walls). The old stone building is light-filled and cool, surrounded by a lovely garden area with many places to sit, read, write, talk and enjoy the view. Directly behind the school is a restored historic church. Please note: The cobblestone path down to the school is quite steep and, at points, slippery because of the smoothness of the stones. Please bring comfortable and sturdy footwear with you. Due to the topography of the village (and the fact that cars and motorized vehicles are mostly not allowed), unfortunately, applicants with limited mobility will have difficulties with access. Please contact us for any clarifications. |
