Eligibility

MA students, doctoral candidates and recent PhDs in relevant fields (anthropology, history, philosophy, cultural studies, gender studies, etc.), as well as artists, activists and cultural producers, are invited to apply to the Pelion Summer Lab. In exceptional cases, we will consider qualified, recent BA graduates.

We are seeking participants who clearly demonstrate their reasons for wanting to attend the particular PSL and can point to a prior history of research, collaboration, creative experimentation and public intervention.

You can download our Call for Participation here and its greek version here.

FEES

The Pelion Summer Lab is non-profit and there is no tuition.

Accepted participants will be responsible for an administrative fee (150
€), payable to the non-profit "Cosmopolitik: Network for Social Research and Public Action". This fee also covers supplies for the experiment, three meals and transport for excursions and will be required to confirm your attendance.

The Pelion Summer Lab offers a scholarship program to support financially-challenged participants. However, all participants are expected to cover their personal expenses (transportation to Makrinitsa & food).

The PSL scholars will be excluded from administration fee. They will have to deposit 50€ registration fee to secure their participation and offered for free a shared room with breakfast. For single rooms, they will have to cover the additional charge.

housing and food

Participants have the option
  • to book an accommodation with the help of the PSL team at a local hotel such as the Melanthi or analogous at 30 €  for a shared room & 50 €  for a single room  per night, including full breakfast.
  • to book an accommodation on their own in Makrinitsa or in Volos. Transport by bus from Volos to Makrinitsa is available, but not frequent. We do not recommend staying in Volos if you do not have access to a car.
PSL will provide a dinner on the first and the final night, as well as a lunch during our day trip to the beach. Coffee and light snacks will be on hand all day at the PSL seminar base at the school.

Makrinitsa is a traditional settlement covered mostly by
cobblestones (pavings of smooth round stones ) adding to its beauty and originality. This may be a challenge, however, for mobility-impaired people.

Certificate of Attendance

A certificate of attendance will be provided to participants of Pelion Summer Lab, dependent on regular attendance of the lab activities and participation in the public experiment on the final day.

APPLYING

Applications for PSL 2022 are closed. The PSL will take place in Makrinitsa from June 29 - July 9, 2022.
