Neochori is one of the oldest, and lesser known, villages of Mount Pelion. Located at the very center of the Pelion peninsula, (40-50' by car from Volos city), Neochori is close to both the Aegean Sea and the Pagasitikos Gulf, halfway between North and South Pelion. Neochori is located at an altitude of close to 500 meters and most of the plane trees (platania) in the village are centuries old. The village mostly preserves a traditional architectural style, while many of its stone mansion houses -Pelion's signature architecture- date back to the late nineteenth century. The village square offers a view on both the Pagasitikos Gulf and the Aegean Sea.
The most intringuing aspect of Neochori's location is that it is surrounded by forests. Here South Pelion's beachtrees meet the lushness of North Pelion and the cultivation of olive and apple trees. This rich biodiversity creates a special aura. There are also lots of hiking routes starting or passing through the village, many of which we hope to walk together.
In the village, there are three taverns: their excellent cuisine attracts many visitors on the weekends. Neochori also has a bar, a grocery store, a bakery and a pharmacy, all situated at or around the main square.

Local residents of Neochori have founded a grassroots cultural initiative called efhorion zeen (in greek: "ευχώριον ζην" meaning living in a capacious and also joyful space -efhorion is a wordplay). The initiative publishes its own periodical collection named "Neochori of Pelion". Footprints of life and history'. They have already published four issues (since spring 2024) and they are currently working on the fifth, in which they deal with topics of history and memory. The journal's aim is to compose an archive of records, memories, documents of the time and chronicle the local history of Neochori.
